How to make a Bahama Mama

Shake it in a highball with crushed ice. About 3 minutes.

  1. Fill a highball glass with crushed ice and set it aside.
  2. Add the dark rum, overproof rum, coconut liqueur, coffee liqueur, lemon juice, and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake the ingredients vigorously until the shaker is well-chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into the prepared highball glass over the crushed ice.
  5. Garnish the drink with a maraschino cherry.

Bartender’s tips

  • If you do not have overproof rum, you can substitute it with additional dark rum, gold rum, or aged rum.
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice provides a much cleaner acidity than bottled juice to balance the sweet pineapple.
  • Serve this drink immediately while the crushed ice is fresh to keep the cocktail cold without over-diluting it.
