B-54

★ 4.0 · 52 ratings in Cocktail Art

The B-54 is a sweet, decadent layered shot that belongs to the famous B-52 family of cocktails. Instead of the orange liqueur used in the original, this variation features amaretto, which adds a rich, nutty almond note. It tastes like a liquid dessert, blending coffee, cream, and almond flavors. It is perfect for parties or as a digestif.

How to make a B-54

Layer it in a shot glass. About 3 minutes.

  1. Pour the coffee liqueur into a shot glass.
  2. Slowly float the Irish cream liqueur over the back of a bar spoon to create the second layer.
  3. Carefully float the amaretto liqueur on top of the Irish cream layer using the bar spoon.

Bartender’s tips

  • Chilling the liqueurs in the refrigerator beforehand makes them denser and much easier to layer.
  • Pour very slowly over the back of a spoon, keeping the spoon tip just above the liquid surface as you rise.

B-54 questions

What is the difference between a B-52 and a B-54?

While the classic B-52 uses orange liqueur as the top layer, the B-54 replaces it with amaretto for a distinct almond flavor.

How strong is a B-54 shot?

The B-54 has an alcohol by volume of about 20 percent, making it a moderately strong shot with a smooth, creamy finish.

Can I mix the ingredients instead of layering them?

Yes, you can shake the ingredients with ice and strain them, but you will lose the visually striking layered effect of the traditional shot.
